Are The Luckscout Community Members in the Right Place at the Right Time?

Talent and intelligence is not all we need to succeed. We also need something that people call “luck”. Luck means to be in the right place at the right time. When you have the talent and you are in the right place at the right time, you will make history. None of them, (1) talent and (2) being in the right place at the right time, work alone. It has always been like that. But, you see and hear it a lot more these days. The world is advancing too fast, although some people don’t like it. It is sad to see that more and more people are losing their jobs every day, because of new technologies. But, I must repeat again that it has always been like that. New jobs always come and some jobs become obsolete. But, this process is becoming much faster. We have already talked about this in details in these articles:

According to The Economist, big tech companies no longer want computer science graduates. There were 120,000 tech lay-offs in January and February alone. Why?

Here are possible reasons why some IT graduates may struggle to find employment:

  1. Rapidly evolving technology
  2. Mismatch of skills
  3. Lack of practical experience
  4. Competition in the job market
  5. Regional job market dynamics
  6. Lack of soft skills
  7. Economic factors

While the rest of the reasons have always been important, the first one (rapidly evolving technology) is the biggest issue now. And, computer and IT related jobs are not the only ones that are at risk. I have already outlined several other jobs here that are becoming obsolete and useless. In general, the job categories below are known as the highly at-risk jobs:

  1. Data entry clerks: With advancements in optical character recognition (OCR) technology and automation, the need for manual data entry has diminished.
  2. Telemarketers: Robocalls and automated marketing systems have reduced the need for human telemarketers.
  3. Cashiers: Self-checkout machines and automated payment systems are gradually replacing human cashiers in many retail environments.
  4. Toll booth operators: The increasing adoption of electronic toll collection systems and automated license plate recognition reduces the need for manned toll booths.
  5. Bank tellers: Online banking, ATMs, and mobile payment systems have decreased the demand for in-person bank transactions.
  6. Assembly line workers: Advancements in robotics and automation have led to the automation of certain tasks traditionally performed by human workers on assembly lines.
  7. Travel agents: Online travel booking platforms and travel-related websites have made it easier for individuals to plan and book trips without assistance from travel agents.
  8. Drivers: The rise of autonomous vehicles and the potential for self-driving cars may affect professions such as taxi drivers, truck drivers, and delivery drivers in the future.
  9. Warehouse workers: The increasing use of robotics and automation in warehouses may lead to a reduction in manual labor required for tasks such as picking, packing, and sorting.

The list above will become longer over time. No one can stop this. But, we should not look at it negatively. Life has always been like that. When a door becomes closed, so many new doors will be opened. The good news is, The Luckscout Community members are in the right place at the right time.
