I Don’t Believe in Luck. I Believe in Sweat. The Harder I Work, the Luckier I Get

The chance to win a lottery ticket and become a millionaire is one in 18 million for Americans, which is nearly zero for the majority of the population. It should be almost the same or even worse for other countries as well. That’s why some people, including myself, never buy lottery tickets. They prefer to keep working as hard as they can because everything they have attained in their lives has come from hard work, blood, and tears, not luck.

There are a few quotes that life has proven to me to be true as I grow older. One of them is a quote by the golf legend Gary Player, which says,

I don’t believe in luck. I believe in sweat. The harder I work, the luckier I get.

There is something even more important: Even if your hard work makes you lucky enough to achieve what you desire, you will lose it all if you lack the intelligence and consciousness to maintain it.

Life doesn’t joke with anyone. You have to be alert at all times. You are never closer to defeat and collapse than when you’ve achieved some success, feel proud of yourself, and think you’re finished. But no, you’re never done. You should always be cautious and awake, otherwise, you can lose the game, even in the last second. The fountain collapses when it reaches its peak. So, to avoid collapse, we should never consider a peak reached. We should keep striving higher and higher, nonstop. That’s why I always say that success is not a destination; it is a continuous journey.

If you look at major companies that ascend higher every year, you’ll notice the same pattern. They never halt at one point; they continuously innovate and create new sources of profit. However, many other companies reach a certain level, linger there for a while, and then begin to decline. Losing momentum equates to falling.
