Our brain is the most complicated machine in the universe, at least until it’s proven that there are other living beings with more complex and advanced brain than ours. Unfortunately, we often fail to utilize our brain properly because nobody has taught us how to do so. Schools typically don’t address this topic because they lack the necessary knowledge, and their own brain utilization may be suboptimal too.
However, harnessing the power of the brain to lead a better and more fruitful life is not as complex as it may seem, and it doesn’t require a significant investment of time or money. Our brain operates as a ‘set and forget’ machine, and with proper guidance, it can work automatically, even while we’re asleep. What we need to do is reprogram our brains. Once we accomplish this, this formidable and intricate computer will work 24/7 to achieve the goals we’ve programmed it to pursue.
Reprogramming Your Brain
Why should we reprogram it? It’s because it has been wired to function against us, rather than for our benefit. Therefore, our brain needs a reset. Fortunately, this is entirely feasible. You can set aside thoughts of complicated techniques, expensive therapists, and counselors who charge exorbitant fees to reprogram your brain. Hypnotism isn’t the best choice either. Self-hypnosis demands a lot of practice, and consulting a specialist can be prohibitively costly with no guaranteed results. What I’m about to share with you comes with a guarantee – it works.
Here is the secret:
Our brain doesn’t comprehend the negative. It cannot absorb and implement negative commands or sentences you give it:
- Don’t eat too much!
- Don’t be nervous!
- Don’t have stress!
- Don’t be lazy!
You cannot instruct your brain not to do something. This is the mistake most people make. They issue negative commands to their brain, but their brain doesn’t respond. If you don’t believe this, try not to think about white cars. As soon as you decide not to think about white cars, your brain floods your mind with images of white cars because when you think to yourself, “don’t think about white cars,” your brain doesn’t process the “don’t think” part, instead, it focuses solely on “white cars.”
Therefore, rather than using negative sentences or focusing on what you want to avoid in your life, feed your brain with positive sentences and constructive alternatives for the things you wish to improve or replace:
- Negative: “Don’t forget to do your project.”
Positive: “Remember to complete your project.“ - Negative: “Don’t be anxious during the presentation.”
Positive: “Stay calm and confident during the presentation.“ - Negative: “Stop making mistakes.”
Positive: “Just focus a little more to do it perfectly.“ - Negative: “Don’t procrastinate on your tasks.”
Positive: “Start working on your tasks promptly.“ - Negative: “Don’t be so careless with your work.”
Positive: “Be more attentive and thorough in your work.“ - Negative: “Don’t doubt your abilities.”
Positive: “Believe in your abilities and skills. If others could do it, you can do it too.“ - Negative: “Don’t be afraid of challenges.”
Positive: “Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth.“ - Negative: “Don’t be lazy.”
Positive: “Stay motivated and productive.“ - Negative: “Don’t be negative.”
Positive: “Maintain a positive outlook on life.“ - Negative: “Don’t be so disorganized.”
Positive: “Stay organized and manage your tasks efficiently.“
By phrasing your commands or self-talk in a positive and affirmative manner, you encourage your brain to focus on what you want to achieve or improve, rather than what you want to avoid or eliminate. This can be a more effective way to reprogram and harness the power of your brain for personal growth and positive change.
You can reprogram your brain even more efficiently than that. The best example in this case can be learned from Robert Kiyosaki. He says,
Don’t say ‘I cannot afford it.’ Say, ‘How can I afford it?’
When you say ‘I cannot afford it,’ your brain accepts it as a fact and won’t work on the problem anymore. Consequently, you may continue to face affordability issues for the rest of your life. However, when you say ‘how can I afford it?’ your brain views it as a challenge to find a solution. As a result, after a while, you’ll notice that you can indeed afford it (whatever it is), and a solution will have entered your life.
Robert’s advice is about shifting your mindset from a limiting perspective to a more empowering one. Here are some similar examples of reframing your thinking you can start using in your life from now on:
- Instead of saying, “I’m not good at this,” say, “How can I improve in this area?“
- Instead of saying, “I don’t have time for that,” say, “How can I make time for that?“
- Instead of saying, “I’m too busy to exercise,” say, “How can I prioritize exercise in my schedule?“
- Instead of saying, “I’ll never reach my goal,” say, “What steps can I take to get closer to my goal?“
- Instead of saying, “I can’t do this project,” say, “How can I break this project into manageable tasks?“
- Instead of saying, “I’ll never learn a new language,” say, “What strategies can I use to learn a new language effectively?“
- Instead of saying, “I can’t handle stress,” say, “What techniques can I use to manage and reduce stress?“
- Instead of saying, “I can’t find a job,” say, “How can I enhance my job search strategy?“
- Instead of saying, “I’m too old to start something new,” say, “What opportunities can I explore at this stage of my life?“
- Instead of saying, “I’ll never save enough money,” say, “How can I save more money and improve my financial situation?“
This is how you can reprogram your brain. You should not fight against your brain because it will resist and defeat you. It’s stronger than you because it’s always working, even when you’re asleep. So don’t struggle against it; instead, feed it with good and positive thoughts to focus on. That’s all you need to do. Start now. Pay close attention to every thought and sentence that passes through your mind, as well as the words and sentences you repeat. Counter the negative ones with their opposites, and concentrate more on the positive ones. You’ll notice that your life and outlook will begin to change, even from today.
Please post comments and share examples of negative sentences that can be replaced with positive ones to reprogram our brain! 😀
