The Most Certain Way to Succeed From Edison’s Point of View

I have talked about many of the great scientists, inventors or entrepreneurs that I respect and admire a lot. But, Thomas Edison who was the first inventor I got to know in my life hasn’t been covered on the site yet. All of the legends I talked about on this site have been extremely exceptional, in a way that no one else can be compared to them. Edison is also like that, or maybe even the most exceptional one.

History has seen many inventors and scientists. But it has rarely seen an inventor and scientist who is also a great entrepreneur, businessman and strategist, like how Edison was. Tesla was a great scientist too (more educated and smarter than Edison), but unfortunately he wasn’t able to turn his talent and inventions into wealth (read his sad story here). Edison and Henry Ford who were also good and close friends, are two exceptional inventors who were great businessmen and entrepreneurs too.

Before we talk about the success secret of Edison, please let me tell you why he is such a great legend to me. In his 84 years, he acquired 1,093 patents. Maybe no one else can compete with him in this case. But, to me, the most impressive thing about Edison is that he is the first person in history and in the world, and maybe even in the universe, who has recorded a sound. Recording a sound and playing it over and over could not even be imagined by humans. But Edison did it.

The other thing is, like all other successful people in the world, Edison has fans and also enemies. You cannot become as famous as Edison and not have enemies. There will be some people who will hate you. This is 100% normal. But, even the lives of the most hateful people have some valuable things to learn. I see everything in famous people’s lives, from Hitler to Einstein. There are so many things in them to learn, while many of the things some people say against famous people like Einstein are not true and are based on jealousy and baseless rumors. If someone claims that a famous person is not a good human being and I should not admire them or refer to their quotes, I must see undeniable proof against that person. Fact and reality are the only things I care about. Baseless talks have no value to me.

So, let’s focus on positivity, and avoid negative people who look for negativity in everything, even in the lives of the people who have served humanity.

What Was Edison’s Success Secret?

Among all his quotes, I love four that have helped me a lot in different steps of my life:

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.

Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.

I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

The first three talk about trying more until we get the results we are looking for. He tested his light bulb 10,000 times but didn’t get the result he expected. When someone said, “so you failed 10,000 times!”, Edison said he hadn’t failed and he had just found 10,000 ways that didn’t work. Failure had no meaning for him. He never gave up. He always tried to get the results he wanted.

Indeed, his biggest secret was in trying one more time, as the first quote says. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time. So, whenever you don’t get the results you want, you try one more time, while you make the necessary changes and fix the possible mistakes.

The first quote was the one that helped me in trading. Whenever I wanted to give up on trading, I remembered that Edison said “try just one more time.”

I am in his debt, not because the light bulbs he has invented illuminate my room, but because he said, “try just one more time.”

And, whenever I’ve been about to give up, I remembered Edison said that maybe I am so close to success.

You can’t go wrong if you follow the mindset of people like Edison. Let’s not give up and keep trying until we get the results we are looking for.
