What Is Artificial Intelligence and Can It Be Dangerous?

Artificial intelligence or AI is nothing but software. The difference is, it can learn and improve itself on its own (like the one that can predict the stock market direction), unlike the ordinary software that are what they are and cannot modify and update themselves on their own.

An ordinary software like Microsoft Word that you install on your PC can only do what is already built and programmed in it. For example, if your are used to make some special spell errors, like you type “form” usually when you want to type “from”, and then when you proofread your text, you find this mistake and change many of the “form”s to “from”, and you do this almost in any text that you work on, Microsoft Word is unable to learn about this problem to remind you the next time you type “form”. However, if you do this while working with an smart software that is able to collect these kinds of information like the more frequent mistakes you make, after a short while it will know you and the mistakes you make more, and it can help you to find them easier, or when you type the same word, it can remind you to double check and make sure the “form” you have typed really has to be “form” or it has to be “from”.

Humans Create Artificial Intelligence Software

Like ordinary software, artificial intelligence has to be programmed by humans. But, it is a complicated process to enable a software to collect some special information (like your more frequent mistakes while typing), and use the information to have a better performance the next time you use it. When programming an ordinary software, you just need to know what it is supposed to do. But if the same software is supposed to be smart and intelligent or what they call artificial Intelligent, not only you must program it to do what it is supposed to do, but also you have to know and program what will happen when the software is working and what kind of information it has to collect to update itself and have new special reactions to the things that happen.

Therefore, artificial Intelligence can do whatever it is programmed to do. It cannot do anything more than that. For example, the artificial Intelligence that drives a car can be programmed to record some of the information of the car owner and use them to have a better performance the next time. For example, it can learn that the owner has a special accent, and so they pronounce the name of the streets differently. So, the next time that the owner pronounces the name of a street that they had pronounced it wrongly the last time, the artificial Intelligence knows that it is the same street, and so it won’t ask for confirmation again, whereas it had asked for a confirmation the first time the owner had pronounced the name of the same street.

Artificial Intelligence can do these things based on how they are programmed, but it cannot do anything beyond. For example, it cannot decide on its own to take a special passenger to a place that is different from where they want to go. It cannot decide for you on its own.

It means, many of the things that people say about artificial intelligence are wrong. Taking control of the things and acting against humans by artificial intelligence is nothing but a joke and it is more like fiction movies that are all based on lies.

Indeed, the term “artificial intelligence” is not a correct terminology. There is no “intelligence” in this case at all. Artificial intelligence is just more capable of collecting and storing information to use when needed. There is no wisdom or any power and ability to think and decide. They cannot think and decide. They only act based on what is coded in them by humans. They cannot think and understand anything the way that humans do. The “intelligence” we know in humans cannot be programmed or become manufactured to create artificial forms of intelligence.

You can give artificial intelligence lots of information about different people. It stores the information and uses it when needed. But the information it has stored doesn’t make it hate or love some of those people, unlike humans who develop feelings about different people they hear about. Therefore, artificial intelligence cannot decide and act based on feelings because no feelings can be formed in it.

For example, after reading some articles about Hitler, Churchill, Ford, Einstein, etc. some special feelings to each of these people, from hate to respect and love, will form in you. We can give the same information to artificial intelligence too. It can save and use them better and faster than humans, when needed. But no feelings develop in it based on the information it collects. There is no sense, thought, feeling, and sentimental decision-making in them. There is no fear and greed in them. They never want to take control of the world and ridiculous things some people say about artificial intelligence.

Can Artificial Intelligence Be Dangerous?

Like other technologies, humans can use artificial intelligence to make life easier, or riskier. Artificial intelligence is not dangerous by itself. It depends how dangerous the humans who program it are. The enemies of humanity will use it against humanity, and true humans use it to help people have an easier, happier and safer life.

Should We Be Worried About Artificial Intelligence?

It will make so many people lose their jobs because it can do many of the things that humans are doing now: Artificial Intelligence Will Eliminate 300 Million Jobs Very Soon

So, it is a threat for many people. But, it is an opportunity at the same time. While many people, even doctors and lawyers will lose this jobs (learn why here), it will have a positive on many others’ lives: You Get Paid Only Because of Your Presence
