1. Setting Maximum Bid: A bidder enters the maximum amount they are willing to pay for an item. This is the highest amount they are willing to bid.
2. Automatic Bidding: The auction system uses the bidder’s maximum bid to place bids on their behalf. The system will bid the minimum increment necessary to outbid other participants until the maximum bid is reached.
3. Incremental Bidding: If another bidder places a bid, the proxy bidding system automatically increases the current bidder’s bid by the minimum bid increment, as long as it stays below their maximum bid.
4. Competing Bids: If someone else bids higher than the maximum bid, the system will automatically place bids on behalf of the original bidder until their maximum bid is reached or exceeded.
5. Winning the Auction: The bidder with the highest maximum bid at any given time is considered the highest bidder. If this bidder’s maximum bid is not surpassed by other participants, they will win the auction.
Proxy bidding is designed to simplify the bidding process for participants, allowing them to set their maximum bid and let the system handle the bidding on their behalf. This approach helps bidders avoid constant monitoring of the auction and allows them to participate in multiple auctions simultaneously.
