The body yawns for three reasons, it’s telling you your ether hungry, tied means you need sleep and when you wake up!! Yes I guess we all do that when someone is laughing we end up laughing too!!
I agree with you Ayegbayo. I do that quite a lot. Even when I am on the phone if the person I am speaking too yawns I do yawn as well. Very interesting and amazing I should say.
Lol.hehe, I don’t know about that Ayegbayo..lol, but what I do know the body only yawn for three reasons when the body need sleep or hungry and when awaken!!
I do agree with Ayegbayo because I experience that a lot. Whenever see or hear someone yawing, I yawn too. You might find it strange David but it is true.
Both are contagious, but yawning is generally considered more universally and involuntarily contagious than laughing. Scientific studies suggest that contagious yawning is linked to empathy and social bonding, and it’s observed in many animals, not just humans.
Laughing is also contagious (thanks to mirror neurons and social connection), but it often requires a shared context or sense of humor. Yawning can spread even without any emotional context—sometimes just seeing, hearing, or even thinking about a yawn can trigger one.
So if you yawn every time someone else does, you’re not alone—it’s a common, almost reflexive response!
Thanks Kelvin for the detailed information. Really insightful. You are right in saying both are contagious. I think it is different for everyone.. For me I find yawing more contagious
Both yawning and laughing are contagious, but laughter tends to spread more easily in social groups due to emotional connection.
You are right Thienne. I guess the experience is different for everyone. Thanks so much for your answer.
Yawning is contagious for me
Same here Eric. Thanks so much for your answer.
Both are quite contagious, but I think yawning is more so. I can just see the word yawn, or someone can say yawn, and I end up yawning. I already yawned like 5 times writing this, lol
Laughter
I agree with Kara. I find yawing more contagious too. Thanks so much for your answer.

Laughing is more contagious for me but I laugh at everything 😂
