You are welcome!
Babies are born without a fully developed kneecap (patella). Instead of a hard bone, they have a cartilage structure in their knees that gradually ossifies (turns into bone) as they grow, usually by the age of 3 to 5 years. This cartilage helps with flexibility during birth and early growth.
