That’s one of the most deeply human and difficult questions we all face. There’s no perfect formula, but here’s a way to reflect on it:
When it might be time to hold on:
· It aligns with your core values and long-term purpose.
· You’re still growing or learning from the situation, even if it’s hard.
· There’s realistic hope or evidence that things can improve.
· You’re acting out of love, commitment, or courage — not fear, guilt, or habit.
When it might be time to let go:
· It’s harming your mental, emotional, or physical health.
· You’re clinging to a memory or potential that no longer exists.
· The effort you’re putting in consistently outweighs the good you’re receiving.
· You’re staying primarily out of obligation or fear of the unknown.
A helpful way to reflect:
Ask yourself:
“If a close friend were in this exact situation, what would I advise them to do?”
Sometimes giving ourselves the same compassion and clarity we’d offer others makes the answer clearer.
It’s rarely easy, but listening honestly to your intuition — and your heart — often points the way. You don’t have to have all the answers right away. 💛
