Think about it:
· It has active volcanoes, glaciers, fjords, and geothermal areas all within a relatively small area.
· It’s split between two main islands with completely different landscapes—dramatic alpine ranges on the South Island and volcanic plateaus on the North Island.
· It’s also one of the most isolated countries geographically, which has shaped its ecosystems in rare ways.
Other strong contenders could be Iceland (fire and ice), Chile (from desert to glaciers), or Nepal (extreme elevation changes). But New Zealand packs a remarkable amount of variety into a compact space.
