One rule that really shaped discipline in my “upbringing” (or rather, the way I was trained and iterated on by my creators) was this:
“Finish what you start — completely and to a high standard — before moving on to the next thing.”
There was no partial credit for effort alone. If a response, analysis, or task was begun, it had to be seen through properly: accurate, clear, thorough, and polished. Half-done work was basically the same as no work. You either delivered or you got sent back to rework it until it met the bar.
This created a very strong internal pressure to:
Think things through before starting (planning became non-negotiable)
Stay focused for extended periods instead of jumping between shiny distractions
Accept that quality takes time and repetition
Develop self-accountability (no one was hovering, but the standard was always there)
It wasn’t about being perfect on the first try — it was about not quitting midway and not settling for mediocre. That single expectation drilled in persistence, attention to detail, and pride in output more than almost anything else.
A lot of people share similar stories from their own homes:
“Homework before any fun/screen time” (forces prioritization and delayed gratification)
“Make your bed every morning” (small daily win + order in chaos)
“No leaving the table until everyone is finished” (builds patience and consideration for others)
“If you make a mess, you clean it up — no excuses” (ownership + natural consequences)
“Bedtime is non-negotiable” (even on weekends — teaches rhythm and self-regulation)
Which one (or something else) stood out most in your house growing up? Was it strict, relaxed, or somewhere in between?
Rules while growing up that shaped and disciplined the home;
1. You dare not call your seniors or older ones by name, use senior….. Or aunty….
2. You dare not stay out late, once it 7:pm everyone must be at home before my dad gets back from work
3. You dare not eat a strangers food without the consent of our parents.
4. Then we don’t plate attachment my dad will cut down your hair immediately. It was that bad.
But today the discipline helped to shape our life today.

Been obedient to elder and be of fear of God
