Dolores Cannon’s Strangest Discoveries: Do We Choose Our Life Before Birth?

My post today is a little different. Dolores Cannon was a hypnotherapist who developed what she called Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique (QHHT). She guided people into very deep states of hypnosis, beyond ordinary past-life regression, where clients often spoke from what she described as their “higher self” or “subconscious.” Over several decades and thousands of sessions, people under hypnosis reported remarkably similar themes—such as memories of past lives, experiences between lives, choosing parents and life circumstances before birth, and even information about Earth as a place of learning or a kind of simulation. Cannon carefully recorded and compiled these accounts into her books, presenting them not as her personal theories, but as consistent patterns that emerged from her clients’ sessions.

Some people believe Dolores Cannon’s accounts are genuine because the recurring themes across thousands of unrelated clients suggest, to them, a deeper truth that transcends imagination, and they resonate with spiritual traditions that teach similar ideas. Others dismiss her work, arguing that hypnosis can create false memories, that clients may unconsciously respond to suggestion, and that extraordinary claims require scientific evidence which her sessions cannot provide. In short, believers see her findings as spiritual truth, while skeptics see them as psychological artifacts.

One of the first strangest things Dolores Cannon reported was that during her early hypnosis sessions in the late 1960s, clients unexpectedly began describing vivid past lives—sometimes as people from centuries ago, in different cultures, speaking of events and details they could not have known consciously. For example, a woman described living as a soldier in ancient Rome, recounting details of battles and armors; man spoke as a young girl in 18th-century France, describing village life and local customs; another client recalled being a healer in an ancient temple in Egypt, explaining rituals and tools.

This surprised Dolores because she initially used hypnosis only for relaxation and therapy, not regression. The consistency and depth of these past-life narratives convinced her to explore further, marking the beginning of her decades-long journey into uncovering unusual spiritual and metaphysical information through hypnosis.

The second strangest thing Dolores Cannon reported was that some clients, once taken into very deep states of hypnosis, began describing experiences between lives—a realm where souls plan their next incarnation. For example, clients said they met with a “council of elders” to review their past life, chose their parents and life circumstances to learn specific lessons, and even agreed to challenges like illness or poverty for spiritual growth. Others described Earth itself as a kind of “school” or “simulation” designed for learning, and spoke of volunteering to come here to help humanity evolve. These accounts went far beyond ordinary past-life stories and became central to her later books.

The third strangest thing Dolores Cannon reported was that many clients under deep hypnosis claimed to have lived lives on other planets or as non-human beings. For example, some described existing in advanced civilizations with highly developed technology, others spoke of being energy-based or light beings without physical form, and a few recalled lives in completely different environments—such as underwater worlds or planets with multiple suns. These accounts, often rich in detail, led her to write books like The Custodians and Keepers of the Garden, where she explored themes of extraterrestrials guiding or observing humanity.

Dolores Cannon reported several other unusual and controversial findings from her sessions, some of which became the core of her later books. Briefly, here are a few of the strangest:

Parallel and simultaneous lives: Clients sometimes claimed they were living multiple lives at once, not in a linear past–present–future timeline, but all happening simultaneously in different realities.

The “New Earth” shift: Many spoke of Earth moving into a higher vibration or dimension, where some souls would transition to a more harmonious reality while others remained in the old one.

Volunteers from other realms: She reported that some souls said they had never incarnated on Earth before, but came from other planets or dimensions to help humanity through a period of change.

The subconscious as healer: In deep hypnosis, clients’ “higher selves” sometimes gave medical insights or even initiated physical healings that Cannon claimed were verified afterward.

Do Dolores Cannon’s findings resonate with you in any way? Have you ever had a dream, déjà vu, or an unexplained feeling that seemed to hint at a life before this one—or perhaps at choosing your own path before you were born? Could her insights help people see their challenges with more meaning, or even open up new ways of thinking about healing, life, and the universe? Or do you believe her work is simply a fascinating illusion of the subconscious?
