We are what we think because our thoughts become actions and our actions become our habits, and our habits determine our destiny and future. So, let’s learn some good habits from the real rich. I said “the real rich” because there are big differences between those who look rich and those who are really rich. Therefore, if you want to learn from them, first you must verify whether they are really rich or they look rich. Before I share the habits, let’s see what are the differences of the real rich and those who look rich briefly:
The real rich are the ones whose money works for them and the money that their money makes is a lot more than what they spend. It means, if their income stops for some reason, they won’t be in trouble and they will have enough time and money to generate new sources of income, while they usually have several sources of income. But, those who look rich, live in luxury houses and drive luxury cars too, but the big difference is, they work hard for money and spend all the money they make. If their income stops, they will be broke instantly and they will lose their houses and cars.
Therefore, if you seek advice to know the secrets of getting rich, first you must make sure you are taking advice from those who are really rich, not those who look rich: You Should Not Take Advice From People Who Are Not Where You Want to Be in Life
Habits That the Rich Don’t Share With Anyone
Let’s see what are the habits that the rich have and rarely share with others, not because they don’t want to share, but because they don’t think that their success secret is in these habits. They think it is not worth talking about these habits because they are not important. But, they are really important.
1. No procrastination
Procrastination refers to the act of delaying or postponing tasks or actions that should be accomplished, often replacing them with more pleasurable or less demanding activities. It involves the voluntary postponement of intended tasks despite knowing that there may be negative consequences resulting from the delay. In simpler terms, it is the tendency to put off important tasks in favor of immediate gratification or less demanding activities.
Procrastination can manifest in various forms, such as constantly checking social media, watching TV shows, engaging in excessive planning or organizing, or even engaging in unrelated productive tasks as a way to avoid the primary task at hand. It is a common behavior that affects individuals in different areas of their lives, including academics, work, personal goals, and everyday responsibilities.
While occasional procrastination is common and may not have significant consequences, chronic or severe procrastination can lead to increased stress, anxiety, reduced productivity, missed deadlines, and a decline in overall well-being. It can also create a cycle of guilt and self-criticism, as individuals often recognize their procrastination tendencies and the negative impact they have on their lives.
Understanding the underlying reasons for procrastination can help in overcoming this habit. Procrastination may arise due to various factors, including fear of failure, perfectionism, lack of motivation, poor time management skills, overwhelming tasks, or a tendency to seek immediate rewards. Addressing these factors through strategies such as setting realistic goals, breaking tasks into smaller, manageable steps, prioritizing tasks, creating schedules, and practicing self-discipline can assist in overcoming procrastination and improving productivity. 2. No show off
While the apparently rich people always show off by spending their money on luxury houses, cars, parties, clothes, furniture, etc., the real rich don’t even think about these things. Many of them live in mansions, but they do it only when the value of the mansion is not even 0.01% of their wealth (Warren Buffett), not when they have to work hard to pay off their loans while over 70% of the property belongs to banks.
Why do some people ruin their lives to show off? It needs several articles to answer this question. However, here are the the main and most common reasons:
- Seeking validation and approval
- Boosting self-esteem
- Establishing social status
- Comparison and competition
- Insecurity and overcompensation
- Attention-seeking and thrill-seeking
The real rich use their money to make more money. For the real rich, “money” is just a tool to take more good steps to have more achievements. They use their money to be more productive and to create jobs and opportunities for others. They don’t use their money to prove that they are superior.
3. Make money while you sleep
If you don’t find a way to make money while you sleep, you will work until you die. ―Warren Buffett
Maybe nothing is more important than this, in the lives of the real rich. When they started, they worked for money. But unlike others, they forced the money they made to make money for them. They kept doing this until their money made a lot of money through different income resources: 4 Kinds of Assets That Generate Income and Make You Rich
4. Keep it confidential
You never know what the real rich do and what projects they have. They are always silent, unless they become among the richest and get listed on sites like Forbes, which is the time they have to talk about what they do. The reason is, they don’t work to make noise and attract attention. They work because they love what they do and they do it to enjoy themselves. Those who make lots of noise, they enjoy the noise, but they will remain where they are.
On the other hand, the rich believe that they should work in silence because there are so many who don’t like to see them winning. People’s attention is not important at all. Real achievements are.
5. Mix up with the right people
The real rich have a very small circle of like-minded friends: Limit Your Circle to Become Successful
Those who like to look rich have a big circle of people that most of them are not even friends. They are just the audience. They are there to watch because those who like to look rich want to be seen by more people. That’s a huge mistake formed by the problems I outlined under “no show off” subtitle. All these problems have the same roots.
Maybe what I have explained above are not known as important success secrets by the real rich, and that’s why they don’t talk about them. It is because they have lived with these habits for decades. But, those who want to follow the footsteps of the real rich, must develop these habits.
What maybe all of the real rich haven’t done yet, is what we are doing here. I have explained it here: A Simple Success Formula that Works Like a Charm
