Society shapes us from the moment we are born — through school, culture, family, traditions, expectations, and the rules we’re taught to follow without ever questioning them. Many of these teachings help us, but some of them hold us back, limit our potential, or create illusions that people accept as “truth” simply because everyone else believes them.
We all grow up hearing things that are supposed to guide us, but later in life we discover that they were incomplete, misleading, or completely false. What feels “normal” is not always right. What everyone repeats is not always true. And what society expects from us is not always what leads to happiness or success.
That’s why I want to open this discussion.
In your experience, what do you think is the biggest lie society teaches us — and how did you discover it wasn’t true?
Your answer can be about:
- Life
- Happiness
- Success
- Relationships
- Education
- Work
- Human nature
- Anything you’ve learned through experience
.
There is no right or wrong answer.
Just share the truth you have discovered in your own life.
Happy wife Happy life…..
The biggest lie society has ever said. A marriage isn’t just about the wife and how happy she is, the husband deserves happiness also. My husband and I live by Happy Spouse Happy House because when he is hurting or stressed so am I and vice versa and we try to figure out a solution together.
Society teaches us that the only things that really matter are how much money you make and the amount of property you own. That is a lie. You can possess large amounts of each of those things and still be deeply depressed and unhappy. I have learned to seek the Lord. He provides me with opportunities to make the money I need and He gives me peace to deal with whatever I face in life.
I could rant about this for hours but to sum it up, we were told not to question our superiors/elders almost like they can’t possibly make mistakes. In certain situations, I understand that mindset but aren’t we supposed to think for ourselves? I guess we’re not supposed to when it comes to those older than us or we’re just being disrespectful.
Society teaches people that everything is best controlled by the government, and is our almighty power for survival and success; but that is a big lie. There are many ways we can live, love, succeed and survive without everything government. Humans can be anything, live anywhere successfully if we put our minds, strength and belief in our Almighty God and blessings can bring financial stability!
Society teaches you to be more of a follower then a leader, they also tell you to go to collage and get a degree. I say go to collage if what you passionate about require it. I went to trade school and a have a few trades under my belt. Besides schools dont teach real financial literacy. Starting your adulthood already in debt makes it hard for some to get ahead in life.
They teach us to silence our grief, apologize for tears, and to “get over it” instead of honoring it.
They teach us go to school, get the job that pays you enough to live (or at least cover the bills), get yourself the house, marry Prince Charming (or Princess), have the babies to repopulate the earth. Be content with everything you’ve been given/worked hard for.

Whereas, we just have to work smarter.
