The Miracle of Benjamin Franklin: Join or Die!

A few days ago, I was reading a book about the American Revolution that took place between 1765 and 1783, ultimately leading to the independence of the country from the UK. At that time, there were 13 colonies under British control, and the primary goal of the American Revolution was to secure independence for all of these colonies. They ultimately achieved this on September 3rd, 1783. However, a significant challenge arose during this period: Some of these colonies also sought independence from each other while simultaneously desiring freedom from the UK.

Benjamin Franklin was well aware that the 13 colonies needed to remain united in order to achieve independence from the UK. He made significant efforts to maintain this unity, which is why his portrait is featured on the $100 bill. While many people associate Franklin with the currency, they often overlook his true identity and contributions.

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) was a polymath and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. He was a renowned scientist, inventor, writer, diplomat, and statesman. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Franklin is best known for his experiments with electricity, where he famously flew a kite during a thunderstorm to prove the connection between lightning and electricity. He authored numerous influential writings, including his autobiography, which remains a classic of American literature. Franklin played a crucial role in drafting the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. As a diplomat, he represented the fledgling United States in France during the American Revolution and negotiated key treaties that helped secure support for the American cause. Franklin’s intellect, innovation, and contributions to science, literature, and politics have left an enduring legacy.

What I love a lot about Benjamin Franklin is his sense of humor. Benjamin Franklin was known for his wit and sense of humor, which often displayed a clever and satirical edge. His humor was characterized by a mix of irony, wordplay, and social commentary. Franklin employed humorous anecdotes, puns, and witty aphorisms to convey his ideas and engage his audience. His writing often featured a light-hearted tone and playful teasing, allowing him to address serious topics while keeping readers entertained. Franklin’s humor was sharp, intelligent, and infused with a keen understanding of human nature, making it an integral part of his influential and engaging style of communication.

Now… let’s discuss about what I have called “The Miracle of Benjamin Franklin” in the title of this article:

As I explained above, Benjamin Franklin made significant efforts to maintain this unity of the 13 colonies. They had a newspaper at the time and Benjamin Franklin used to publish articles in it to focus on the issue of the 13 colonies’ desire about becoming independent from each other. Benjamin Franklin is often associated with the phrase, “Join, or Die”, because he popularized it through a political cartoon published in 1754.

The cartoon, known as the “Join, or Die” snake, depicted a segmented snake divided into eight parts, each representing a different British colony in America. The image was accompanied by the text “Join, or Die” and was meant to convey a message of unity and the need for the colonies to remain together.

The cartoon was a call to action, urging the colonies to unite for their common defense against a common enemy. It symbolized the idea that if the colonies remained divided, they would be vulnerable to defeat. Franklin’s intention was to encourage colonial unity and cooperation in the face of a significant threat.

“Join, or Die” is applicable to the current world as well. Unfortunately, the enemies of humanity are growing stronger every day. Scams and Ponzi schemes are emerging and expanding, while it seems that officials lack the inclination to stop them (read this). They defraud people through one Ponzi scheme, MLM, or pyramid scheme, only to launch a new one and repeat the cycle. Many people become accomplices as team builders and referrers due to the allure of making significant profits. If you’re not a team builder or capable of referring and recruiting, your only option to earn money with them is by investing (and risking) your own funds. They use this money to pay their team builders. Eventually, they cease payments to members, which typically occurs within a few months to a few years. As a result, the founders and team builders are the sole beneficiaries, having made (stolen) substantial amounts of money, while ordinary individuals who can only invest end up as the sole losers. This is an all too common story these days.

To generate income online from the comfort of your home, you either require specific skills and experiences that can compete with others in a particular sector (like freelance programming) or you have to excel in networking and team building to refer thousands to the scams I described in the previous paragraph, which involves preying on innocent individuals (something I’m certain you detest doing). However, I dare say there is another option available. It doesn’t necessitate any special skills or experiences, nor does it require you to risk any money or refer and recruit others.
