Aww…thank you for that Rhonda, yes history is my best subject, from when I was a little tiny little boy at school, I was the best in the whole school at history!! And in my Secondary school I was top of the school and in College I was the top in the whole college. Of course I don’t know everything about history, but its my best subject!! Your so welcome Rhonda.
The right-side steering wheel placement came first, but was quickly superseded by the left-hand drive position in the early 20th century, beginning with the Ford Model T in 1908. This change was driven by the global shift to right-hand traffic, making a left-hand steering position more practical for the driver’s visibility of oncoming traffic, especially for making left turns.
Gina, yes, thank you for participating and the additional information. ❣☘❣☘
Where I live in the united states the steering wheel is on the left. Not quite sure which one came first
According to my research, the steering wheel on the left was first.
Thanks, Jacqueline❣☘
You’re welcome Rhonda
The left hand side
Mitzi, correct❗
Thank you much❣☘
Yay, you’re welcome
Actually in England the 1800’s long before America started building car. The steering wheel was set in the middle. Then later on in. The late 1800’s it was set on the right have side and the car industry started to develop. Still long before America was building cars. I know my English history and America history. And I worked for Ford Motor Company for over 20 years so I know America car history.
David,
It sounds like my research answer could be incorrect. I thank you for the additional research and sharing with us all. My hubby agrees that it was in the middle. If I am wrong, I do like to be corrected so I will know. Some get defensive, not me.
That is awesome you worked for FORD so long. You should have a retirement or something from them. Good job.
From the first from the English was on the right hand side but, we all know what the Americans are like always doing things wrong so they changed it to the left hand side which we English says the wrong side!!
You are so funny. I bet you do great stand-up comedy❗
According to my research, it was first on the LEFT.,
The first steering wheel was positioned on the left side of the vehicle. This design choice became more common in the early 20th century, as it allowed drivers to better gauge oncoming traffic when driving on the right side of the road.
Makes a lot of sense. What do you think, David?
I would say the steering wheel placement would have be to the right first.
Sorry, incorrect.
Aww, thank you Rhonda and maybe next go round
Left-hand drive (steering wheel on the left) became standard first, largely due to Henry Ford’s Model T in 1908. It was designed for driving on the right side of the road, giving the driver better visibility of the center and oncoming traffic. Right-hand drive is used in countries that drive on the left.
Well don, Kelvin❗ You are doing very good❗ Very good writing and appreciate you sharing with all of us❗
Thanks, Kelvin❣☘

David, that is awesome. You are full of it ~ history and more that is, Well done.
