Is the World Mainly Ruled Based on Facts or Based on Opinions?

It depends what you mean by rule. I believe that the world is shaped by a combination of facts and opinions, but ruled by opinions.

Politics plays a significant role. Politics, money, power, and public opinion. For the most part, our political leaders run the show — they’re the puppet masters — and the more money they have, the better show, especially during an election — slicker campaigns, more advertising revenue, more power over the media. If their campaign supports our beliefs and opinions, we’ll vote for them. If not, we’ll vote for the other guy, or we’ll vote Democrat because we voted Democrat in the last three elections. People are capable of rational decisions, but our beliefs, hopes and fears, even our moods, often steer us in a certain direction, making it more likely to believe that something is fact without digging deeper. If we’re undecided, we’ll gravitate toward popular opinion. Who’s Elon Musk voting for? Ok, I’ll just go with that.

When I think about it, many circumstances are ruled by opinion — not entirely, but often — simply because we want to believe what we want to believe. Either that or we can’t get our heads around the facts. My world is ruled by a mixture of fact and opinion, each carrying a different weight depending on the situation. I don’t know for sure that the earth revolves around the sun; I’ve never actually seen it happen, but I believe it to be true. I don’t know whether time exists, but I believe that it does because I can’t imagine it not existing. For me, time is real. Time moves forward, only forward, and it never stops moving.

But that’s just my opinion.
