Our country, Philippines is home to many different languages, dialects, and sub-dialects. Although the official language of the Philippines is Filipino (based on Tagalog), there are over 170 dialects spoken throughout the archipelago which consist of more than 2100 islands.
Guam a small island has its own national dialect called Chamorro.
Philippines and Guam were both under the colony of the Spaniards for 300 years which greatly affected our Language. But early settlers before the Spaniards came like Indosia, China and other neighboring islands have influenced the diversity of our Language. English is the official Language for both Guam and Philippines.
How many Language your country have?
Do you believe the story of Tower of Babel in the Bible?
It has been this way since that Biblical character Nimrod, gave God a good reason to punish him.God ordered the people to speak this way in order to stop the building of that tower and it worked.God also decided to leave the different languages and dialects in place. One thing that helps is that with this global system ,we can translate. Also with me,I learned to speak my parents language. They came from Haiti. They spoke French and Creole.Creole is the main language spoken there. However, while in school,a teacher taught me to speak English. These languages are a part of life
The people of Babel were getting too powerful in the eyes of God so
The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.”
8 So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. Gen 11:6-8.
That is why we have so many languages.
Thank you Judy for your time to answer this question, sounds you believe in the biblical myth.
Different languages comes about when we considered social factor. No one is born with a language, but later on in life, he or she develop a language socially; they begin to speak the language of the people in their social environment. I hope when we try to answer, why people speak different languages;dialect, we base our argument on the first language of a child; mother tongue. Anyone can learn speaking any language provided he or she interacts with people who speaks that language.
