Complex question, i believe the truth is the way to go 99.9% of the time but there will be that situation where a comforting lie will be needed where the need of others is out weighted by our need to tell the truth. Compassion and love with the action of mercy handled with grace can be a tough choice and my not be the true truth by a comforting lie.
Good question! I readislike liars, and I strive to be honest always, now having said that – I look at lies differently then some – so when someone asks you , “Does this shirt make me look fat?” I would not necessarily be 100% honest, but due to the nature of this type of lie, which I actually don’t consider to be a lie and I call it a fib, I believe that since you weren’t being nefarious and you were just trying to not hurt their feelings, then if you say No when in reality the shirt does make them look heavier, Iwould say it’s a fib and fibbing is ok under those circumstances. If that makes sense?
I don’t believe that lies are needed at any time they destroy people’s lives even a small lie can if taken in the wrong context. So, no even telling a small lie it’s just not worth it. There are different ways to present the truth if you are worrying about how someone may take it, lying is never the answer and thanks Jorg for your comment.
Life is not Black and white and i have seen to much pain and loss there are grey areas that require grace compassion and love and to sacrifice one’s honor to do what the heart tells you. I hope you do judge me to harshly it only happened to me once and honestly i would to it again to lie and give them peace as they pass. i hope with all my heart you never have to make that choice it will not be something you can plan it will happen in an instant. These are my thoughts i hope it helps to explain my answer. Thank you for the question and your friendship.
In general, honesty is often considered a virtue and is valued in many cultures. Telling the truth, even if it’s painful, can foster trust and integrity in relationships. However, there are situations where telling the truth might cause unnecessary harm or distress, and in such cases, a compassionate approach might involve delivering the truth tactfully or considering whether it’s necessary to disclose certain information.
Ultimately, the decision should be based on a careful consideration of the specific circumstances and the potential impact on the individuals involved. It’s essential to balance honesty with empathy and compassion, striving to minimize harm while upholding principles of integrity and respect.

While it depends on the situation,in the end,it is better to tell the painful truth. It is like dissolving a serious burden.
Myriam thank you for your comment
I am not sure, it depends on the situation l am in. I wouldn’t like to lie,
Thank you for your comment Ethienne
I would have to say a comforting fib or just not say anything at all. The reason would be because it would cause undue pain and hurt for the person who it is being told to. Not done to protect myself.
Thank you for your comment Jill
You are welcome Jacqueline
Sometimes we tend to say lies depending on the situation.
Thank you for your comment Epifania
Comforting lie. Unless it’s necessary, then it has to be the truth, even when it offends and hurts people.
Thank you Lee for your comment
To tell the painful truth as to regret it later
Thank you Anna for your comment
The truth is usually the best but a lie might give temporary help. A true friend will tell you the truth even though it might hurt.
Thank you Carl for your comment
If it’s the truth I’m trying to avoid it must have been something bad I did but I would tell God and then try and tell the truth.
Thank you Steven for your comment
A painful truth. Sometimes the truth hurts. I rather you tell me the truth then lie to me.
Thank you, Josie, for your comment.
I would say truth in most situations. Now if someone asked me something like, “Do I look fat” I might hedge on that to make them feel better, but anything that really matters, the truth for sure.
Best choice and thank you Sandra for your comment.
a painful truth , honesty is the best policy & the truth will set you free
