This is a great question. Some of my perspectives in a few areas …
* Calculated Risks: Can lead to growth, learning, & exciting opportunities. That can be pursuing one’s passion, traveling to a country very different from your own, or even starting a new business.
* Fear of Regret: Sometimes, not taking a risk can lead to regret. You would always be thinking “ What if? “
*Context Matters: Risks can vary. Some are small & others can potentially be life changing. So considering the context, having your goals aligned, & being aware of the potential impact.
*Tolerance: We are all different. Some of us are thrill seekers & others may prefer to play a little safer. So understanding your tolerance can help you make better decisions.
*Balance: Being right in the middle, having a little adventure & safety makes for a great risk taken. If there’s too much risk, it could lead to recklessness. If there’s not enough of a risk, there’s the potential of having missed out on opportunities.
It depends on what you’re taking a risk on. You have to choose carefully, but you do have to take risks sometimes. I took a risk and started a business years ago. If I had not taken that risk I don’t know where I would have been today. I took a risk and had my son. We all have to take risks or we would never have the things we want, but you have to weigh the risk against the rewards.
