In ancient Roman times, the week consisted of eight days. These days were designated by letters A through H. Every eighth day was nundinae, or market day, when public activities were suspended. Later, the Roman Empire adopted a seven-day week, influenced by the Jewish and Babylonian week structure, and the seven visible celestial bodies.
