We are taught and supposed to forgive. That is a given if we want forgiveness, too.
But to what extent do you forgive others for their past and and current actions? Are you worried past actions will repeat themselves? How much do you put yourself out there for someone based on the extent forgiveness for the other person is needed?
I’ve been burned so many times throughout my life and mainly from Family and the sad part is when they apologize for their actions they end up repeating them again and again…. As for strangers or friends the same nonsense happens with them as well…. Long story short…. I never Forgive anyone ( I used too and get burned all over again ) so I stopped forgiving people but I do forget about them ( I lock their memory away and move on with my life )
You’re welcome
Forgiveness should not have a cut off. If God forgives us and grants us new grace and mercy every day, how can we place any limit on who to extend it to and how many times… you can always forgive and move forward and be cordial but you do not have to either remain friends or become.
Well said!
Thanks Phyllis!
Thank you Alexis! Very simply put but well said!
Jill you are welcome.
Forgiveness is not for the other person who has hurt or harmed in anyway. Forgiveness is for the one who has been hurt they must forgive so that they can move forward with their lives. Otherwise, they will be angry and bitter for years struggling trying to understand asking themselves why me? People need to understand the best way to start the healing process is to forgive let it go and allow it to be a part of the past so that they can move forward in life that is what forgiveness is all about. People don’t do that they would rather hold on to it stay upset about it for who knows how long moving on with it keeping the hurt alive bringing it into other situations and wondering why things are not working. That is what people do, and they shouldn’t, but they do.
Thank you Jacqueline. This really helps me. The perspective enlightens me definitely. I have had a lot on my mind and your comment gave me new angles to process.
Well thank you Jill glad I could help you in some way and you are more than welcome
I have to forgive for each offense in order for me to be forgiven for all of my offenses. I just don’t forget and I do use the long handle spoon.
Thank you Phyllis. Aw…. a long handle spoon!! Good advice. I can never get too much good advice.
You are welcome!
I have to say I forgive and forgive and forgive way too many times which isn’t a good thing, but it’s how I am. I have a very tender heart and usually hurt myself more than someone who shouldn’t be forgiven again!
Teresa, I know exactly what you are talking about. I am so the same way. I am trying to learn to protect myself better. I am hoping there is a way to have a happy medium space.
Me too!! I let people walk on me and I’ve got to do better! Have a great day my friend
I think I would feel much better and do much better for myself if I stop people from doing this to me. I am sure others would think it is insensitive but protecting yourself is the only person who will do that. We can work on this together.
Only action which are not intentional can be forgiven. What we should know, forgiveness has a limit. How long it can go depends on the offended.
Thank you Hillary! I am sure some would claim it was not intentional and didn’t know any better. Just depends what you have been told, right? Of course, that is all you can do.
With me not too far I do have my limits to how far I will forgive. I’m only a human, only the Father Our Creator can go far unlimited forgiveness!!
Yes! I have to lean on my faith for forgiveness from God when my forgiveness runs short. Ultimately it is His forgiveness that is most important.
not far if you’re a repeat offender . Grown folks know exactly what they be doing ,which is why I don’t forgive everyone . I just cut them off .
I really need to take you lead Mina! Sometimes that is hard for me to do. Thank you!

Thank you Gina! That happens way too often. Forgetting can be a hard part at times.
