Geiger counter, also known as a Geiger-Müller counter, measures ionizing radiation. It detects the presence and intensity of alpha particles, beta particles, and gamma rays. These are all forms of ionizing radiation, meaning they have enough energy to strip electrons from atoms, creating ions. The counter essentially counts the number of ionizing events occurring within a gas-filled tube.
