Mother Teresa began her humanitarian work in kolkata (formerly Calcutta), India
She arrived there in 1929 and started her work as a teacher. In 1948, she left the convent to work directly with the poor in the slums of Kolkata, marking the beginning of her full-time humanitarian mission.
