In 2015, England (through the National Health Service, or NHS) became the first country to start sending thank-you text messages to blood donors when their blood was used to help a patient.
The service was launched by NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) to show donors the direct impact of their donation and to encourage continued donations. Donors who had opted in would receive a message saying something like:
“Your blood donation was used at [Hospital Name] to help a patient. Thank you.”
It was a simple but powerful way to create a personal connection and reinforce the importance of giving blood.
