I’ve heard quite a few and honestly forgot most of the ones I’ve heard. However I do remember being told that it was “bad luck” to open an umbrella in the house. Or that if a black cat crosses your path then you will have bad luck. Well I am alive to say that neither of those things were/are true. Also I don’t believe in luck, so maybe that helps, just blessings! Great question!
In my Women’s Group at church, we are told that if you leave the group, you will get pregnant. So far, most of the people that have left the group that are younger, have gotten pregnant. People are afraid to leave the group!
That’s a very good one, Judy! I would be afraid to leave the group! 🙂 Thanks for your comment and for your participation!
Don’t put your purse or wallet on the floor or you’ll go broke.”
Ethienne, now this is a good one! I live by this one. I know I refuse to place my handbag or purse on the floor to this day! As a matter of fact, I use to set my purse on the top shelf in my closet thinking it would bring me more money. In my mind I thought it did! Thanks for the memory! I appreciate your participation!
That if you swallow any seed of a fruit, it would grow in your stomach.
Oh, my goodness! I just swallowed a watermelon seed the other day! I sure hope a watermelon is not growing in my stomach! 🙂 Thanks for your comment and for your participation!
Don’t step on a crack are you will break your mothers back. We all followed this entirely in grade school. We all looked like a bunch of drunk kids walking down the sidewalk.
Carole I am laughing so hard until tears came in my eye! Yes, we did look crazy back then. I wonder if children still believe in this one. Thank you for your comment and for your participation!
If a black cat crosses in front of you is bad luck. I feel worried each time I see a black cat crossing the road or the path in front of me.
I rememeber this one. I grew up believing in it. This one was really scary for me from a child to an adult. Thanks for your comment and for your participation!
Oh my girl, same!
You are most welcome. My neighbour has a black cat and it is always in my garden. It has got these green scary eyes-Lol
Don’t leave your underwear hanging outside at night cause you will get pregnant with an octopus lol .
Well, this is a first for me! I must say it is funny! I am so glad I’ve never left mine outside! 🙂 🙂 Thanks so much for sharing this one with us and thanks for your participation! It really is funny! 🙂
Yes it is really funny and very weird but it really happened in my country lol.
That’s also a new for me. Made me giggle though
I remember us kids wouldn’t step on a crack. Step on a crack, break your momma’s back meaning bad luck.
I remember that one as a child. It’s been around a long, long time! 🙂 Thanks for sharing and I appreciate your participation!
Dont say the Q word, when at work.🙄🤦🏻♂️
This is the first time hearing this one, Lee! What happens if someone says the Q word! I am curious. I remember when I was working this lady would yell out, “what did the monkey say when they cut his tail off”? No one knew. Then she would say, “it wont be long now” We would all laugh, because it was getting close to quitting time. Now, the Q word. Glad I didn’t say it! 🙂 Thanks so much for your comment and for your participation!
I love the monkey tail one, never heard that before.
At work, when finishing and handing over to the next shift, I will wish them well and say ‘have a quiet one’. Everyone loses their shit, like if things go sideways it’s because someone said the Q word. I’m not superstitious so, I say it all the time to mess with them.
Well Phyllis everyone in this area does eat black eyed peas on New year’s day!! Lol, people in these parts take it very seriously.
The strangest superstition I ever heard was that you should never tell a dream you had to anyone without eating first. Weird lol
For some strange reason, I still go by that one! I will not tell my dreams before I’ve had my breakfast. 🙂 Back to the blackeye peas. I remember one year when I was younger, I put some blackeye peas in my pocket and went to the casinos. Well, as you know it didn’t work! I didn’t win any money, but I had fun! Thanks for sharing with us and for your participation!
I’ll share a theatre superstition that I follow, and have seen play out in real life.
Never say the name of Shakespeare’s “Scottish Play”, Macbeth in a theatre unless you are performing it.
A friend of mine did that once and got pink eye. Serious stuff.
Oh, my goodness, I know now not to never ever say the name of Shakespeare’s “Scottish Play”, Macbeth when in a theatre! Thank you, Kathryn for your commemt and for your participation!
I don’t know if this is just a UK thing, but telling someone “to break a leg” as way to wish them luck
It may have started in the UK but, I think it is worldwide now! Yes, I have heard people say that phrase many times! I am laughing now because I have said it too not knowing the true meaning behind it. Now, I know! 🙂 Thanks for the clarification! I appreciate your comment and your participation! Break a Leg! 🙂

Yes, I have heard all of the ones you listed and it’s really just for fun! Thanks for your comment and for your participation, LaShawnda!
