So, I fell down my basement stairs today and rolled my ankle. ER ran the X-ray and CT scan to see what they could see, and said there were no broken bones, but couldn’t rule out a hairline fracture due to there being too much swelling. Obviously, this isn’t my first time with an ankle injury, but it is the most inconvenient, as my son’s college move-in date is in 4 days. My question is how many times you have had an ankle injury and how it affects your next few weeks during the healing process?
Ouch! I had an ankle injury years ago and I was out of work for two weeks. Rest is your best friend. Even if you wanted to get up and walk, it’s very difficult to be up for longer than about 10 minutes at first. I would rally the troops to see if they can assist with your son’s move in.
Hope you have been healing up quickly and happy semester to your son!
An ankle injury can affect you in several noticeable ways:
· Mobility: It often limits your ability to walk, run, or stand comfortably.
· Pain and swelling: These are common and can range from mild to severe.
· Daily tasks: Routine activities like climbing stairs, driving, or even wearing certain shoes become challenging.
· Long-term impact: Without proper care, it can lead to ongoing instability or arthritis.
If you’ve hurt your ankle, it’s wise to rest, elevate, ice, and see a doctor if pain or swelling persists.
Thank you for your response. Yes, I have been doing all the above.
An ankle injury can really throw your whole routine off. Even something that seems small, like a sprain, makes simple things—walking, standing, driving, working out—suddenly way harder than you’d expect. You end up moving slower, putting more pressure on your other leg, and feeling stiff or sore in places you normally don’t.
It’s not just physical either—there’s the frustration of not being able to do what you normally do. If you’re active, not being able to run, play sports, or even just go for a walk can feel discouraging. Daily tasks like carrying groceries, climbing stairs, or even just standing for long periods become stressful.
All very true points. Thank you for your thoughtful response
Extremely tragic. I’d definitely be at my lowest😭
Thank you for your response
My first ankle injury was on the first day of cheerleading camp❗ I was the top person on the pyramid, and we fell. I sprained mine and had to cheer from sideline.
My second ankle injury was major. I was in a bad car accident and broke my ankle and crushed my heal. They had to do surgery on both sides and rebuild my heel. I had several surgeries. I didn’t like crutches; they hurt my arm pits. I was in a wheelchair. My sister pushed me out of the house and lost control down the hill. I tumbled❗ I got stuck in a room and had to wait hours before someone came home. My hubby would push me at store but wouldn’t stop when I asked to look at something. Yes, it was a big challenge. I still have a small limp and always will. Every once in a while, my ankle goes out, makes me look like I am drunk or something 🤣
Good luck to you❣
So sorry to hear these stories. I totally agree on crutches , they stink. I have a knee scooter and a wheel chair that I much prefer. I’ve had 5 surgeries on my right ankle due to a similar fall but that was on ice and doctors wouldn’t listen to me because they were only worried about bone and not ligaments and tendons. I had to have my right ankle reconstructed as the lugay and tendons were completely shredded.
My left one the one I just injured has been interesting bey although it aches especially after being wrapped up for awhile and I can’t bear weight on it very well, the swelling is so intense that their isn’t as much pain as I am use too with ankle injuries. I will always limp on my right side now ,maybe this will even it out. . Thank you for your response.
Dawn, you got you injuries on both ankles❗ I feel for you much❗ I bet the scooter is the best. You could even decorate it,
Best get well wishes flying your way❣

Thank you for your response and yes, I had help and now have seen the ankle specialist, who wants me in a CAM boot until we get MRI results.
I’ve had 5 ankle surgeries on my right ankle, so I’m no stranger to all the hoops and things I am facing, just praying its not another surgery . LOL
My son is doing great with his first semester so far and really enjoying the experience.
