This is a deep question with no easy answer. On one hand, much of life feels predestined—we don’t choose our birth, genetics, or many circumstances that shape us. Laws of nature, society, and even unconscious brain activity suggest that not every “choice” is truly free.
On the other hand, we experience life as if we have free will. We make decisions, feel regret or pride, and hold ourselves and others accountable. That sense of agency is real to us, whether it’s fully “free” in a philosophical sense or not.
Many find a middle ground: we operate within limits, but still have meaningful choices within those boundaries. So while not everything is open to us, what we do with what we have… matters.
