Bananas grow on large herbaceous plants, not true trees. The structure that resembles a trunk is a “pseudostem” made of tightly packed leaf bases. Each banana plant can produce fruit only once before it dies. New shoots, or “suckers,” grow from the base to continue the cycle. The banana plant thrives in tropical climates with plenty of sunlight and moisture.
