In a positive way, Bees and Butterflies! We love our pollinators!
In the worst, mosquitos. Sure, they’re food for insects as others have mentioned, but they also spread disease and are a downright nuisance. They love to chew up my husband and son.
When they go away for the winter, I think that’s the best part of it.
One insect with a massive impact—both positive and negative—is the mosquito.
Why it has a huge impact:
· Negative: It is the deadliest animal to humans worldwide, causing millions of deaths annually by transmitting diseases like malaria, dengue, Zika, and yellow fever.
· Positive: Ecologically, mosquitoes serve as a food source for many species and, as larvae, help filter water systems.
No other insect affects human health, economies, and ecosystems on such a scale.
Insects have a profound and multifaceted effect on the human race, both positive and negative, and their role is foundational to the planet’s ecosystems. On the positive side, many insects are essential for human survival, most notably as pollinators; they are responsible for pollinating a majority of the world’s most important crop types, making them vital to global food production. They also act as natural pest control agents, preying on other insect species that would otherwise destroy crops, and they serve as nature’s recyclers by decomposing organic matter into fertile soil. In some cultures, insects are even a direct source of food, providing a highly nutritious and sustainable protein. However, insects also have significant negative effects, primarily by acting as vectors for diseases like malaria, which is transmitted by mosquitoes and has a devastating impact on human health. Additionally, some insect species are agricultural pests, competing with humans for food by destroying crops, while others can cause damage to property. The human race’s impact on insect populations is also a growing concern, as factors like habitat loss, pesticide use, and climate change are causing widespread declines that could lead to a catastrophic collapse of ecosystems, ultimately threatening the existence of all species, including our own.
bees! the pollination process is vital to crops, they do wonders
