I love drinking coffee — and sometimes I even eat it raw every day. Recently, I’ve started noticing that colours don’t look as vivid as before. Some shades even seem to blend together — like orange looking more like red, white appearing off-white, and off-white looking like cream.
As an artist, this has really affected my painting — the colours often turn out looking awkward.
Has anyone else experienced something like this? Can long-term coffee or caffeine use actually affect colour vision over time?
Long-term, excessive consumption of instant coffee may be linked to an increased risk of developing dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in individuals with a genetic predisposition to the condition. Dry AMD affects the macula, the part of the retina responsible for sharp, detailed, and color vision, and its progression can lead to permanent loss of central vision.
I drink a whole pot of coffee every morning and have for years, it’s never affected my perception of color! I’ve never heard of that, I hope you can find a solution and what the actual problem is.
I pray so. Thank you.
I pray so too my friend you’re very welcome!!
Though now a days I don’t drink coffee so much much like I used to, I hadn’t noticed some such effects of discoloration. Kenneth, that might be a different issue altogether.
I guess as much
I also understand, too much of everything must have side effects.
Life’s general adage.
Life’s general adage
I drink 3-4 cups of coffee with 3 spoons/shovels of sugar each morning. I have not noticed any color vision changes.
You should go have an eye exam. I wish you good luck and pray that your vision colors will be restored. 🙏🏻
Amen and thanks for the suggestion.
Coffee is life for me and my color vision is still good.
Another point of view.

Thanks for this.
