The ears and the nose continue to grow through out life

In the human body, most organs and bones stop growing after puberty, but two very visible features continue to grow throughout your entire life—your ears and your nose. Unlike other parts of the body, the ears and nose are made mostly of cartilage, a flexible connective tissue. Cartilage is not controlled by the same growth-stopping signals that affect bones. With age, cartilage gradually changes, loses elasticity, and continues to grow or droop as gravity pulls on it. This is why older people often have noticeably larger noses and longer or wider ears compared to their younger years.
Another reason for this lifelong growth is a slow breakdown of collagen, the protein that keeps skin and cartilage firm. As collagen decreases, cartilage becomes softer, causing the ears and nose to sag and stretch. It may not be rapid growth like in childhood, but the change is constant and noticeable over decades.
This gradual growth can have both advantages and disadvantages. On one hand, the nose plays an important role in breathing and filtering air, and the ears continue collecting sound. On the other hand, the visible change can affect appearance, especially as skin texture changes with age. Interestingly, scientists have measured that ears may grow roughly 0.22 millimeters per year, which appears small, but over a lifetime becomes significant.
Many people assume that hair is the part that continues to grow forever, but hair doesn’t truly grow nonstop; it grows in cycles and can thin, slow down, or stop depending on genetics, hormones, and age. However, the ears and nose remain the most consistent parts of the human body that never truly stop changing, making them fascinating examples of how the body evolves across a lifetime.
