Australia is intruducing a ban on social media for all children under 16 years of age. Do you think this is going to work? I think it is a positive step because social media has had a lot of negative impact on teenagers. There has been a rise in young children suffering from mental health issues including increased anxiety, depression, body dissatisfaction, and low self-esteem due to factors like cyberbullying. There has been also a rise in young children involved in violent crimes due to what they experince or see on social media. Not sure whether it is going to work though. What are your own views?..
100% agree
Thanks so much Izabela for your answer. I do agree too but the question is, how are they going to monitor it? Very tricky I should say.
I really don’t know how they will do it …but will be a brilliant thing if they will succeed ☺️
yes they should ban it.
Thanks Voctor for your asnwer but it is going to be a challenge I think
No. They can ban it all they want. Kids are gonna lie about their age. My three year old is smarter than most adults on the phone, so… I do not see that working out at all.
You are very right Jenni. I am not sure how they are going to succeed on this one. Very tricky indeed. Thanks so much for your answer.
I wouldn’t ban all just some of the apps
Thanks Ashley for your asnwer but which of the Apps do you think should remain?
I wish America would do the same!
My children will not get their own social media accounts until they are at least 16, same with telephones. It’s a scary world on the internet, to the point where I hardly use social media platforms myself anymore.
Will the ban work? That depends on how much free reign they have on the internet at school or from their parents. If they have phones, or have access to computers at school, it’s difficult to monitor that. It’s up to all the adults to keep tabs on them, and that’s no easy task.
Even a reduction in social media use for children that age would be amazing though…I miss the good old days.
I agree with you 100% Kathryn. This is the fight we have as parents. If it is going to work parents have to play an important role in monitoring it. I do not think the sociial media platforms would be able to monitor it fully. Thanks so much for you participation and for your valued comment.

Thanks Dim for your answer and you right but it will be a challenge. Already some of them are asking their family or friends to complete face verification for them.
