To me, “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith” means fixing my focus on Christ as both the source and the completion of my spiritual journey. It reminds me that faith did not begin with my effort, strength, or understandingit began with Him. Jesus authored my faith by calling me, revealing truth, and giving me grace to believe.
At the same time, He is the finisher, which means my faith is not sustained or perfected by my own consistency alone, but by His faithfulness. When doubts arise, when strength fades, or when the path feels unclear, this statement calls me to shift my eyes away from fear, people, and circumstances, and place them back on Christ. It is an invitation to trust that the One who started the work in me will also complete it, in His time and in His way.
Ultimately, it means living with confidence and hope knowing my faith is held, guided, and brought to fulfillment by Jesus Himself.
