This is a tough situation, and people react very differently. Some believe the best move is to expose the person publicly and warn others. Others say you should stay quiet, document everything, and handle it only through legal channels. Which approach do you think is smarter—and why? Please share your reasoning (and what risks you see in the approach you didn’t choose).
If someone is extorting or cyberstalking me, I don’t fight back publicly. Public reactions often give them exactly what they want; attention, leverage, and chaos. I focus on protecting myself first by documenting everything, securing my accounts, and preserving evidence. Then I go the legal route: reporting to the appropriate platforms and law enforcement, and getting professional advice if needed. Silence isn’t weakness; it’s strategy. I choose control over drama, clarity over noise, and consequences over clapbacks. The law creates a paper trail, limits their power, and protects me long-term. Public battles fade. Legal action lasts.
When someone is extorting or cyberstalking you, the smartest move is to protect yourself, not your ego. Fighting back publicly can escalate the situation, give the person attention, and sometimes even weaken your legal position.
The best approach is to document everything, stop engaging, and handle it through proper legal channels. Law enforcement, legal counsel, and platform reporting systems exist for a reason. Staying calm, private, and strategic helps ensure your safety and gives you the strongest chance at real accountability.
Public responses should be avoided unless advised by a lawyer. Protecting your peace, your reputation, and your future is more important than reacting emotionally in the moment.
I think it depends on the situation, so for example if it is someone you know or have had a falling out with and they are trying to publicly humiliate you and want you to respond publicly, then I would just plain ignore them. If it escalated and they kept pushing it I would then call them out publicly. However if it was more serious or I did not know the person and I fear for my and my family’s safety and wellbeing, then I would absolutely take the legal approach
I believe that typically, the wisest approach is not to fight publicly but to pursue legal action and ensure everything is documented — screenshots, messages, usernames, timestamps, and URLs….As some say, public silence is legal power. Public engagement often escalates the situation. Blackmailers and cyberstalkers usually seek attention, aim to create fear, or try to gain leverage. Responding online gives them exactly what they want.
This is a tough one because it can lead to violence, l would go the legal way and let the news do the public part. I would prepare for anything to happen as it does so often in Vancouver area every day. Remember everything can be replaced just not someones life. So fight smart and leave emotion out of your plans.
