This is a tough situation, and people react very differently. Some believe the best move is to expose the person publicly and warn others. Others say you should stay quiet, document everything, and handle it only through legal channels. Which approach do you think is smarter—and why? Please share your reasoning (and what risks you see in the approach you didn’t choose).
The smarter move is to stay quiet publicly and act strategically. Documentation and proper channels protect you, preserve your credibility, and lead to consequences that actually last. Silence here isn’t weakness it’s discipline. Public exposure feels brave, but it’s risky. Once you go public, you lose control of the story and open yourself to backlash, distortion, or legal trouble. Real courage isn’t being loud it’s choosing the path that holds up when emotions fade and accountability matters.
Well spoken..it needs carefulness so as not to lose all completely
In a situation like that, the smartest move is almost always to go legal and stay silent publicly.
Fighting back publicly often feels like “winning” in the moment, but it usually just gives the person the attention they crave and can cause the situation to spiral out of control. It’s much more effective to quietly document everything, cut off all contact, and let the professionals (lawyers or law enforcement) handle the “fight” for you. It keeps your hands clean and actually solves the problem rather than just feeding the fire.
Legal option is the best.
I believe the smarter approach is to go legal only and avoid public confrontation. Reasons being that publicly “fighting back” often feels empowering in the now moment, but it usually escalates the situation. The extortionist or stalker thrives on attention and your reaction, so going public gives them exactly that. They can retaliate harder, twist the narrative, or even sue you for defamation if any detail is inaccurate. and this whole debacle also takes an emotional toll on you and can drag on indefinitely.
The legal route, while slower, is safer and more effective in the long run. so quietly document everything, report to the proper authorities and let professionals handle it with all the evidence you’ve gathered and this can and will definitely lead to real consequences for the perpetrator.
I would go the legal route. To go the public option may lead to further legal issues for myself as that is sometimes how the tables get turned by some dumb mistake. The other person will continue to harass and bully if only lashing out at them in a public matter.
By going the legal way, the person harassing you will be legaling bound to stop. I wont stoop to the level of the bully by responding back to them in the same public manner.
Finally, the person bullying will be exposed publicly ultimately anyway. And it wont be from your mouth but others.
I will not only expose publicly for the sake of others who may be going through same and do not know how to handle it, so they learn or have an idea from my experience.
I will also go legal with my evidences because fighting publicly alone won’t thoroughly or may not solve the issue the way I would want it solved to give me justice.
I will expose publicly when perhaps I have tried cautioning the person and the person continues in the act.
Also to call for awareness, attention and opinions to the issue.
Secondly I will go public for the sake of those who may be going through same ordeal and do not know how to handle it. so they learn or have an idea from my experience.
I will also go legal with my evidences because going public alone may not solve the issue the way I would want it solved to give me due justice.
All very good thoughts. The only thing I caution about the public portion is that the other person might try to retort with a false accusation or stretched truths. At the end of the day, you know what happened and those who are close to you know. Unless it saves someone else the time and effort, it is just a personal perspective that is not back by the judicial system for validation.
It’s important to try to document everything you can so you have the proof, that way if you have to move forward with legal assistance it would help tremendously. That being said, it would really depend on how bad it gets and how far the other person is pushing. I would probably go legal if it gets to be too much. Staying quiet could be too difficult to handle by yourself.

I will use legal action on such person
