“Follow your passion” sounds inspiring… but is it actually good advice?
Some people say passion is the fuel that makes hard work feel easier—and that it leads to success if you stay consistent. Others say it’s a trap that keeps people dreaming, switching directions, and avoiding the boring-but-profitable skills that actually build a stable life.
So what do you think?
Is “follow your passion” a smart life strategy… or one of the biggest traps?
And if you’ve tried it: did it help you—or hurt you? 👇
“Follow your passion” sounds inspiring, but it can also be one of the biggest traps if taken too literally.
Passion isn’t always something you start with — it often grows after you get good at something. Telling people to only chase what they already feel passionate about can lead to confusion, pressure, and even guilt when that passion fades or doesn’t pay the bills.
For many people, real fulfillment comes from building skills, creating stability, and seeing progress, not from blindly chasing a feeling. Passion can be a great guide, but it shouldn’t be the only one. Practical realities matter too — money, growth, and peace of mind.
A healthier approach is to follow curiosity, competence, and purpose, and let passion develop along the way.
