“Follow your passion” sounds inspiring… but is it actually good advice?
Some people say passion is the fuel that makes hard work feel easier—and that it leads to success if you stay consistent. Others say it’s a trap that keeps people dreaming, switching directions, and avoiding the boring-but-profitable skills that actually build a stable life.
So what do you think?
Is “follow your passion” a smart life strategy… or one of the biggest traps?
And if you’ve tried it: did it help you—or hurt you? 👇
Absolutely. As long as you’re going after what you love and what you want, you are doing exactly what makes you happy right? Life is short. Don’t spend it miserably. So do as you please and stay humble is the way I look at it. There’s so much more to what I am saying but to summarize the question I hope I made enough sense to get through to some people and I want to remind you all to never give up!
In my own opinion, I think “Follow your passion” can be both inspiring and problematic. On one hand, pursuing what you love can lead to fulfillment and motivation. On the other hand, it can be unrealistic or lead to burnout if not balanced with practical considerations like financial stability or skill development.
To answer your question Vahid. Yes I did follow my passion. I started riding horses as a child and as I got older I wanted to become a top dressage rider.
The equestrian sport is very expensive and a good horse takes years of training, patience and practice.
I was not rich enough to just ride horses so I also had a full time career.
I made it to National but not International level and decided to retire from riding a few years ago.
would I do it all again? I am not sure.
i had many enjoyable experiences but I spent most of my money pursuing an unattainable dream.
Following your passion can form character and allow you to lead an exciting life but it probably does not provide a secure future
Great
Doing what you love can be super fulfilling. On the other hand, it can lead to burnout or financial struggles if not managed.
The key word is if not managed because the proper management make passion turn in profit.
to me following a passions depends on one capability ,because at times we get trap by our passions due to finance and other obstacles
Good vibes
That’s a hot debate! “Follow your passion” sounds great, but it can be tricky. Here’s the thing:
– Passion can evolve over time
– It might not pay the bills (at first)
– Pressure to make passion your career can lead to burnout
Maybe a better approach is finding what you enjoy and aligning it with purpose and skills. 💡
Most times it’s a big trap, that’s why one have to check his or her own spirit and then seek counsels from wise one
Another way to see it….very apt, I think it’s a trap if it’s born out of laziness

Following passion, you choose mentor and ideas because they resonate, not because you are scared of standing alone.
When it becomes the biggest trap, you outsource your thinking.
