If I had to pick just one, I’d choose reading people’s minds — and it’s not even particularly close for me.
Here’s why:
Predicting the future sounds flashy and powerful, but in practice it’s mostly a curse dressed up as a superpower:
Most futures worth knowing are either:
already extremely likely (boring)
chaotic and probabilistic (so you mostly get a cloud of possibilities, not certainty)
terrible things you can’t meaningfully prevent anyway
Knowing something bad is coming almost always creates a miserable present. You spend years dreading an event that might still not happen exactly as foreseen.
The moments where you could change the outcome are usually the ones where the prediction is the least reliable anyway (self-fulfilling / self-defeating prophecies).
Reading minds, on the other hand, gives you something far more useful in almost every domain of life:
Instant, high-resolution understanding of what people actually think and feel (not what they say)
The ability to build real trust and intimacy very quickly
Knowing exactly when someone is lying, manipulating, or in pain
Being able to give people exactly what they need emotionally without them having to ask
Dramatically better calibration in negotiations, dating, parenting, friendships, therapy, teaching, leadership — basically every human interaction
The main downsides (hearing ugly thoughts, losing some mystery/romance) feel manageable compared to the alternative: carrying the weight of unavoidable tragedies years before they happen.
Short version:
Predicting the future mostly lets you suffer earlier.
Reading minds mostly lets you connect better, right now.
So yeah — minds over future, every time.
What about you — which one would you take?

Wow, thank you Emmanuel for such wonderful and expantiated submission.
Truly knowing the future kinda ruins the fun.
As for me, I’d definitely pick reading minds
