More than fifty years after the Nigerian Civil War ended with the declaration of  “no victor, no vanquished,”  the Biafran cause has resurfaced with renewed intensity not through military conquest, but through memory, identity, and the unresolved wounds of history. When a new generation of Igbo youth waves the Biafran flag today, are they primarily seeking a separate nation-state, or are they giving voice to something deeper? the lingering trauma of a war whose stories were never fully told, whose dead were never fully mourned, and whose survivors were asked to move on without ever being asked what they lost? And in a world where borders are increasingly contested, what does Biafra’s endurance as an idea even in defeat,tell us about the limits of military solutions to questions of belonging, dignity, and self-determination?
