Sacrificing for others is one of the most admirable parts of being human. Families, friendships, and communities are often built on people who are willing to give their time, energy, and sometimes comfort to support those around them.
However, sacrifice becomes unhealthy when it completely erases our own well-being. If someone constantly gives without caring for their own physical, emotional, or financial stability, they may eventually feel exhausted, resentful, or even lose their sense of identity.
I think the healthiest form of sacrifice is intentional and balanced. Helping others should come from genuine care, not from pressure, guilt, or the expectation that we must always put ourselves last.
In many ways, taking care of ourselves is not selfish—it actually allows us to help others more effectively in the long run. A person who is stable, healthy, and fulfilled is often in a much better position to support others.
So maybe the real question is not how much we should sacrifice, but how to give without losing ourselves in the process.
