As a man pushing into my prime years, one thing I’m currently doing to invest in myself that’s definitely outside my comfort zone is deliberately seeking out and initiating real, in-person conversations with strangers—at least once a week, no phone as a crutch.
Why it’s hard for me
I’m naturally more introverted/observant than outgoing. Small talk feels forced, rejection stings (even mildly), and I used to default to headphones or scrolling to avoid it.
Growing up, “man up” often meant handling things solo, not putting yourself out there socially where you might look awkward or get brushed off.
What I’m actually doing
Joining local groups or events (gym classes, hobby meetups, community volunteering, even random coffee shop chats) and committing to starting one genuine conversation per outing—no “hi and bye,” but asking open questions and listening.
Tracking it loosely in a notes app: what worked, what bombed, how it felt afterward.
Goal: Build social confidence, expand my network, and practice vulnerability (sharing a bit about myself without overthinking).
The payoff so far (early 2026 vibes)
Met a couple guys who became workout buddies.
Forced me to get better at reading people and handling awkward silences—skills that bleed into work, dating, friendships.
Feels exposing at first (heart rate up, overthinking replies), but the post-conversation high is real—like leveling up mental toughness without weights.
It’s not flashy like a 75 Hard challenge or starting a side hustle, but it’s quietly transformative. Stepping out socially as a man often gets overlooked compared to physical/financial grinds, but it builds real resilience and opens doors.
What about you—what’s one thing you’re doing right now that’s stretching you, even if it’s small? 😤
One way I’m investing in myself right now is pushing beyond my comfort zone by learning and sharing ideas with new communities.
Growth rarely happens where we feel completely comfortable. It usually starts when we try something unfamiliar, risk failure, and keep improving anyway.
Sometimes the smallest step outside our comfort zone can open unexpected opportunities.
So I’m curious:
What’s one thing you’re doing right now that feels uncomfortable but could improve your future?
