American and Korean movies have distinct styles and themes. Korean cinema has gained international recognition for its unique storytelling, cinematography, and emotional depth. In fact, Korean films have been outperforming American movies at the box office in South Korea, with 547 Korean films released in 2025, compared to 127 American films. However, American films still drew more viewers, with 43.45 million viewers, narrowly surpassing Korean films’ 43.28 million ¹.

Some notable Korean movies include *Oldboy*, a psychological thriller, and *The Lake House*, a romantic fantasy film. Korean cinema often explores themes of family, social issues, and cultural identity.

On the other hand, American movies tend to focus on action, spectacle, and blockbuster entertainment. Hollywood’s influence is global, but some critics argue that American cinema has become formulaic and lacking in originality ².
