I would prefer to stay in my own home and have home help come twice a day for an hour or so to help me. The house would have to be set up safely for me to not become injured and/or fall and accidents reported digitally can help because they can send paramedics. With all the technology now, staying home as an elderly disabled person can be safer than in previous years if it’s done with precautions.
You’re welcome and thanks
Hmmmm this is a good question! I am a community nurse so see a lot of elderly in their own homes and also in care homes.
Now I would like to stay in my own home for as long as I can! However, if it were for my best interest to go in a care home, and also take the pressure of my family members then I would respect their decision to put me in a care home ~ for example, if I had like advanced dementia, or a falls risk and unsafe at home. Because yes you can have carers to come in max 4 times a day unless you are wealthy and can have live-in carers. But there are many hours of the day where my patients are left on their own and they really are unsafe and need to be in a care home with 24 hr care! But I do agree with some of these comments, a lot of care home need to improve! They need more caring staff, better equipment, better paid so the staff actually want to do a good job! I do see some really good care homes but also concerning care homes that I would not put my nanna in!
Thank you so much for giving us an inside view of a nursing home. You make some very valid points and thank you for sharing and for your participation!
My own home❗
My daughter said she would never let me go to a nursing home. She will take care of me and move me in with her. 👩🏻⚕️ She is a RN and now management. 😁 Yay, woohoo❣
My mom was in a nursing home for 20 years and had to move her two times do to abuse. 😡My dad was in a nursing for a short time and fell into a bed post and it pierced him through his cheek & neck. 😖
*due, not do
I know you are very proud of your daughter and she is a very kind and thoughtful loving daughter to want to care for her mother. You both know first hand how nursing homes are. Thank you so much, Rhonda for sharing your experiences with your parents with us and for your participation!
My own home most definitely
Thank you, Jacqueline for your comment and for your participation!

My own home to my death.
Thank you David for your comment and for your participation!
Definitely my own home but I would want to arrange in-house nursing. When my mother in law became incapacitated in her 90’s we arranged for her to stay at home but have 24 hour nursing care. This was the same cost as placing her in a nursing home and was in line with her and her husband’s wishes
Thank you, Joanne for sharing your experience with your mother in law and for your participation!
Definitely my own home.

My own home under someone’s care.
Thank you so much, Hillary for your comment and for your participation!
My own home, nursing homes often mistreat and neglect residents unfortunately.
Thank you, Teresa for sharing and for your participation!
I’d rather be in my own home when it’s my time, and it’s something I’ve promised to provide for my own parents. If I can’t care for them in their home, I would bring them to mine. I pray they can be healthy until the end, though!
You are amazing, Kathryn! Thanks for sharing and for your participation!
