I think it depends on the person, and situation. But, more than likely I would respect someone’s privacy and leave it alone.
I will ignore it
This is a very interesting question. As someone who keeps a “ diary “ & what I write inside it to vent , to question, introspection, whatever are all private thoughts until that person decides that they want to share those details. With saying that , I absolutely would not read through someone’s lost diary.
Hope that you’re well.
I would not only read it, I would upload it online for everyone, just kidding. 🙂
In all seriousness, I would not read it or even contemplate reading it. On a different thought, let’s say it was someone very dear and they were going through a tough time and they committed suicide, by you reading that diary, you could have prevented it, what is the right thing to do? It’s tough as there are so many variables but generally I would not read it.
I guess it depends on whose diary it is. Some people make me think I don’t even want to know.
Morally though, it is wrong in my opinion. Thinking about doing it to my nearest and dearest gives me the ick.
If it’s a blog journal and it’s interesting I say why not.
Also if the person is deceased I guess it could be ok depending on what information you hope to aquire. That answer is a rabbit hole of circumstances that I could write a novel about.
I would leave it just as it is. None of my business.
I cannot tell a lie lol. I more than likely would read it .
Thanks for your honesty Alicia!
As a writer myself it’s a violation to read someone’s diary therefore I will not read it.
Thank you Tiffany. Writers code of conduct?

Indeed John, indeed! Thanks!
