Honestly, yes and no.
No. Reason being because a person simply has never experienced the same situation. This is for the kind of person that must actually endure through the trials and/or troubles, that must actually feel the doubts, experience the worries, and face the situation head on.
It is only until then that they can truly relate and comprehend a situation in particular and not any sooner. They’re individuals whose mentalities are set for moments when & as events occur, or for the future sort to speak.
Depending on the situation, however, for the most of a various experiences, yes, a person can relate to a situation they have never been in or have had happened to them personally.
The major reason behind that factor is because there are certain people that can soak up another person’s energy, vibe, mood, etc. like a sponge. And all it takes is one time to let go of the squeeze.
There’s people that’s naturally empathetic. Some way more intensified than others, which are individuals that sincerely adopts all personal feelings, and struggles, and endurances, of those around them, as if they were their own blood relative. And some, not all, which are the ones that I mentioned in the beginning.
No problem. Any time, Anthony! Have an amazing day!
No I don’t think so
Thank you so ,much for your answer Samuel Anigbo
I believe a person can relate in a thoughtful, understanding supportive way to a situation!! just not in the same way as someone who has lived it.
yes but the reality is that the answer will not be a reality to the situation.
Yes I agree, a person can relate to a situation they’ve never really personally been in, just not exactly the same way as someone who has lived it.
Thank you so much okwudishu Anthony for you Answer
I believe the individual can to some degree, but not completely. This is where the distinction matters and where the rubber meets the road. The person can understand, sympathize with, and even feel emotionally moved by a situation they’ve never encountered personally. Human imagination, storytelling, shared emotions, and deep listening allow us to bridge the gaps between lived realities. This is how empathy works where we recognize familiar emotions such fear, hope loss, love. This holds true even in times when circumstances are familiar. There is definitely a difference between relationally connecting to the feeling and knowing the experience. Lived experience carries nuance, weight, and context that can’t be fully accessed from the outside. Someone who has not been there may grasp the outline of the struggle, but not always the depth and breadth, contradictions, or long-term impact. This is why humility matters. It exist in the space between empathy and experience where the real understanding truly begins.
Thank you Marcellus Johnson for you’re answer
I totally agree with you my brotha well said…
No, I don’t think they can honestly relate, if they have never been in that particular situation. However, they can feel empathy.
Hi Phyllis Cobbin,
so true
Very hard for any person to relate to the situation if they have never been,
because
Who feels it
knows it.
Thank you once again Phyllis Cobbins.
You are welcome, Anthony!
No you can’t relate to it because you have no knowledge you can compare to the situation.
Hi Jacqueline Lee Durden.
Yes, that’s so true.
Thank you,
for your answer. peace
You’re welcome Anthony
Empathy is a good thing, get involved if it matters and if you can. No man is an island. We are interdependent.
Hi Hillary Ogana.
Thank you,
for you’re answer. peace
I think we can relate, we can feel empathy, we think we know what we would do if we were in the same situation, but nobody really knows for sure how they would feel or what they would do until they are in that position.
Dear,
Sandra Kay Hodge,
I totally agree! you are right!
you can for sure relate by empathy, but!!
Who
feels it!
Knows it.
Thank you Sandra,
I appreciate your answer.
That has happened. It is due to the saying,What if you were in that person’s shoes?
Hi Myriam Pierre.
So true!
nothing else said.
Thank you, I really appreciate your answer Myriam.
I think as much as someone may have empathy to a situation if they haven’t experienced it themselves it is very difficult to relate!
Hi Bryony Rose Driver,
I believe so myself,
you can have a good, excellence understanding of the situation,
but it’s very hard for somebody to relate to the issue! without having the experience of never been through it themselves.
Thank you.
