I would report them. I wouldn’t approach the person because you dont know if they are carrying a weapon. When I worked in a department store, we were not supposed to accuse anyone of stealing. It was just assist them with the inventory buttons on the item. The security was to deal with them.
Thank you Jill for your answer. You are obviously talking from experience. By taking things into you own hands you will just be putting yourself at risk. It’s good to let the security deal with it but discretely because if the person knows its you who reported you will be putting yourself in danger too.
You are right! Plus, the company didn’t want extra liability from us as the employees. I don’t blame them and it was very wise. 🙂
Stealing is wrong period. Stores may be insured but claims cause rates to increase for all. Times are tough but it is no excuse to steal.. I work for an insurance company and this is so frustrating and infuriating.
Thanks Brenda for your answer. Yes things are tough for some people and staling is not the answer. Also they will be risking prosecution if caught and can even go to jail. There are other means of getting help if genuinely desperate.
I agree Virginia. I feel for people, but stealing is not the answer. We need to help each other more when possible.
Yes you are right Brenda. I can see where you are coming from and I appreciate that. Thanks so much and have a blessed day.
Thank you, Virginia. You have a blessed day also.
I would ask them why they’re stealing are they homeless and m maybe hungry do they have hungry kids to feed if so I would offer to pay so they don’t get in trouble and than find them resources to get help I own a nonprofit that helps ppl in need my moto is I don’t give hand outs only hand up because hand out last few minutes hand up can last a lifetime
At times I’ve told to security guard- especially when stealing in bulk- expensive stuff . In grocery stores- I don’t react: as I don’t know the full story behind the people’s choices
Morning Zane. I am sure the times you have reported was through your instincts. You did what you felt was right. Stealing expensive things in bulk , that person is a criminal. I am sure most people would have done the same. Have a lovely day
I don’t want to involve in trouble so I would just ignore anyone stealing in a store.
I appreciate your answer Epifania. The reason why most people would not say something is because they don’t want any problems or they do not want to put the person in trouble. You would obviously act according to your instinct. Have a lovley day
Stealing is still a form of crime, and is never an acceptable act or behavior, so if ever I see a fellow shopper do the shoplifting, then he’s old and mature enough to know that what he did was wrong, I mean he has to have common sense, and if he’s lucky enough, he may not be caught for the first time, but maybe the next time he shoplifts, then that would make him end up behind bars, as most grocery stores have cameras, and he’ll definitely be already banned from getting inside the store.
Yes there are cameras in the stores and security patrolling. Stealing is not a good thing yes. People may resort to stealing for different reasons. Some its just a habit and some it’s out of desperation. You will always do what feels right for you at the time. Thanks so much Antoniette. I really appreciate
Am glad, am here for you Virginia 👍🙏❤
Thank you Hillary. Have a blessed day.
I would say something to someone only if it’s required to. There should be systems for me not to have to get involved.
I appreciate your answer Steven. In supermarkets, they cameras and security. You would do what feels right although some people might not agree with you. Thanks so much for your answer.
That’s their business and their business alone, supermarkets can afford to take the hit anyway, they are insured for it and also have a budget that allows for losses such as breakages, theft and loss. Someone might be struggling to feed their family, they may have lost their job and not eaten for a week. You just never know what is going on. I am not condoning it, but it’s none of my business. Live and let live.
I agree Ben although stealing is not a good thing. Obviously we do not know what the person is going through. However they are other people who are just bad who have stealing as a habit. It’s true supermarkets have got insurance for all that. You will do what feels right and I appreciate your answer. Thanks so much and stay blessed.
I would speak to the nearest member of staff to let them know.
Thank you Jasmine for your answer. You will do what feels right for you of cause. A lot of people steal for differrent reasons. That does not mean stealing is good. I appreciate your answer. Have a blessed day
I would let the security guard know- especially places where people try and steam expensive stuff.
Thanks so much for your answer. Stealing is not good so you would of cause do what feels right. I appreciate your answer. Have a lovely day
That’s a good answer Maikesha, I wouldn’t say anything, but I would offer to buy food for the person who is stealing. A lot of people are going through bad time. Not that they are a bad person is they have no other options.
Thank you David for your answer. Thats really a very kind gesture. I agree a lot of people are going without food. Have lovely day.
Virginia you have a lovely day. Thank you sweets
Thank you Latarsha. Have a wonderful day too.
Thank you
If someone is stealing, I definitely don’t agree with their actions. But, if it’s food and they look hungry; I may approach and ask if I can help them. If I’m able to help someone in need, they don’t have to feel guilty/scared, and it makes me very happy to help! Other than that, I am Noone to judge… that’s up to God! And, I am a huge believer in you reap what you sow.
Thank you for your answer Andrea. For someone to resort to stealing they might be really desperate. Having said that there are other people who just have a habit of stealing but in this situation you don’t know their circumstance. So you follow your heart and do what you feel is right.
Yes, you are right, Virginia.
I would report to staff or security.
Thank you for your answer. I appreciate it. Yes reporting might be a right thing to do because stealing is not good. What if they are genuinely struggling.
I would do nothing because I’m not being paid to do something about it
Thanks Desiree. I appreciate your answer. I agree in supermarkets they have security and they have cameras so living it to them would probably be a good idea. Again you do what feels right at the time.
I would inform security or the store manager. I wouldn’t do anything myself, because you never know what kind of mental state a person is in and how dangerous it may be.
I think security should be aware of this. You may be taking a lot of risk on your side, Nina.
Thank you Hillary for answer. Have a lovely day
Hillary, I don’t understand why reporting this to the security services would be risky? You do it quite discreetly, without exposing yourself…
Yes Nina I agree. If you are to report, you do not have to show the person that you have seen them stealing and report discreetly. That way, you wont put yourself in any danger.

Thank you so much Vahid. I am sorry I am working night shifts. So I have not been contributing as much as I should but will try all my best.
