Do we judge and gossip about other people for the sake of feeling better about ourselves?

Often I think this is involved.

I think there is a defensive social element sometimes too. If a group is gossiping about somebody, some may join to feel more secure in their acceptance and avoid being rejected and the next subject.

I don’t enjoy it, it reminds me of school.
