Well, when I was twenty one years old, I worked as a cashier at Harold’s Chicken Shack in Chicago, IL making $1.25 an hour. On one particular night, I was working the cash register and there was around 10 customers in the line waiting to be served when the manager walked through the door. The chicken was delicious and worth the wait! There was only one register and one me. He was livid when he saw that line. The manager started yelling at me in front of the customers and walked to the back where the kitchen was. As I turned my head and watched him exit to the kitchen (an evil spirit got into me) 🙂 I waited on the next customer, then I excused myself from the register and walked to the back where the manager was and I asked him if I could speak with him. I looked him dead in his eyes and said, “If there was a problem you should have pulled me to the side and told me, not yell at me in front of the customers”. I can not remember what he said, but I do remember telling him, “I do not appreciate being yelled at and I am leaving so you get that line down”. I retrieved my personal belongings and exited the building. I quit! Two weeks later, the manager called me and apologize to me. After we talked and he asked if I would return to work, I accepted his apology and he sent a taxi for me and I returned as a cashier. Lesson learned for me, I wont ever just walk off like that unless my life is in danger!
