My husband did before his passing. I only know a few signs.
He was a Union Rep for the APWU and he would communicate for the Hearing and Impaired.
I would wish to learn sign language.
It’s tricky, but it’s such a valuable resource. Hope you can learn it, Hilary!
I can sign letters, but that is about it
You’re part way there! There are a lot of names and words that are spelled out, so you’re on the right track 🙂 thanks for sharing, Kara!
I got a book years ago from amazon on sign language and taught myself
Good impact
That’s amazing, Elizabeth! Have there been any chances to use that yet, or did you learn it just because?
I always wanted to learn
I have not used the sign language I have learned with people yet. but I refresh my memory, so I do not forget
I was taught a few phrases in fourth grade. My English teacher handed out bookmarks with the few phrases I learned but I quickly forgot them after I lost because I never really needed to use sign language with anyone.
That’s awesome, Mitzi! I’ve never needed them since my daughter started talking, so I’ve fallen out of practice too. But, I would be willing to learn again!
It’s a good thing she did! And sign language is a good thing to learn. It’s a way to support our peers that can’t hear!
Absolutely! Not to mention, it’s a skill that’s in demand and fetches a really nice price if you’re fluent. That’s a bonus, though. Learning even some is something we could all stand to do. Every effort counts 🙂
That is true! I should try and learn more. I can teach my kids too. We could study it together.
I don’t speak sign language fluently, but I respect its importance in communication. On this International Day of Sign Languages, let’s celebrate inclusivity and diversity. Also, I speak French and enjoy connecting through language.
I couldn’t agree more, Ethienne! And you speak French? I can barely read/sing it, let alone speak it. Thanks for chiming in!
I used to be able to speak some but forgot alot of what I learned 😆 🤣 😂
We forgot a lot of what we taught our daughter was well. Have you considered picking it back up again? Happy Tuesday, Damon!
I know the alphabet in sign language and some phrases. I think I learned in Girl Scouts back in the day. ✌🏻
I still know my alphabet, but I wouldn’t mind taking a few classes down the line, especially if I were to meet someone who could benefit from my knowing ASL. Thanks for chiming in, Rhonda!
I wouldn’t mind taking a few classes too❗
I don’t speak sign language fluently, but I know some basic signs and have great respect for ASL and other sign languages as rich, complete forms of communication. They are vital languages with their own grammar and culture.
Happy International Day of Sign Languages — a beautiful reminder of the importance of linguistic diversity and inclusion. 👐
Beautifully said, Kelvin! I’ve watched people who translate for events or performances, and they are amazing to watch. To be able to do so much with just your hands and arms is incredible.
I don’t know any sign language
That’s okay! It’s tricky to learn, but it does prove useful sometimes. Have a great one, Jacqueline!
No I don’t speak sign language
Thanks for chiming in, Njideka! Happy Tuesday!

That’s neat, Phyllis! Did he do it for a living, or for someone he knew? Perhaps you could learn a bit more in his memory 🙂
